Orbit | Heart on my Sleeve
The Brief
Currently, Australia spends $28 billion a year on dealing with the impact of mental ill-health. This is an excellent starting point, however the 2020 Productivity Commission Report into mental health concluded that individuals continue to ‘fall through the cracks of mental health services’. Your task is to create and prototype an entrepreneurial idea that inspires positive change in the mental health sector.
The Problem
The Solution
In the context of a society with rising mental health rates, which prioritises convenient communication, how might we leverage existing communication models, to create a sense of collective social responsibility, for the benefit of the mental health sector.
Orbit is a socially responsible messaging app embodying a collective impact model whereby advertisement and engagement revenue are donated to mental health organisations. The app forms an intervention in the Australian mental health crisis targeted at 16-35 year olds, with the objective of encouraging people to reach out to their friends on a more frequent basis whilst mimicking existing messenger systems and functions already familiar to users. Orbit is designed to resemble a collective effort of contribution to the mental health sector, acknowledging that mental health is a facet of life tackled by everyone, not just an individual.
